$365,000 Personal Injury Settlement in a Premises Liability Case
February 3, 2011
Just before the new year began, Taradji Law Offices settled a premises liability case for $365,000.
At the time of the incident, 42 years old plaintiff was an employee in a local business locate in a down town Chicago high rise. When he was on his way to purchase coffee for himself and his co-workers, he had to walk throughout several doorways and hallways to get to the coffee shop. Behind one of the doors, the owner of the premises had placed a ladder upon which an engineer was working on one of the hallway doors. In opening the door, the door hit the ladder and bounced back causing the plaintiff’s back to be injured.
Although not immediately, the plaintiff is taken to the hospital where he is treated and released with what turns out to be a disc injury leading to a back fusion surgery.
Taradji Law Offices filed a lawsuit against the property owner and the property manager and pursued the matter vigorously through the Illinois Circuit Court. The case settled during an informal negotiation two weeks prior to the trial.
