Mother Suit Seeks Damages Resulting From Newspaper Stand Injury

November 7, 2010

This is a most amazing and bizarre event I have heard. These newspaper dispensers are rather heavy metal objects. Even empty it takes a good amount of force to tip one over. This plaintiff claims that the thing tipped over her son? I like to hear the entire set of circumstances before I make up my mind about what I think of this suit.

A mother filed a lawsuit against the Tribune Co. Monday after one of its newspaper dispensers allegedly tipped over onto her son this summer on the Southwest Side.

Jennie Hernandez claims a Chicago Tribune newspaper dispenser tipped over onto her son Pedro Suarez III on Aug. 11 at 2650 S. California Ave., according to a suit filed in Cook County Circuit Court.

The suit claims, among other things, the Tribune Company failed to check if the dispenser could support the inventory and failed to properly secure the dispenser.

The stand tipped over and struck the boy in the leg, causing permanent injury and disfigurement, the suit said.

A national Tribune Company spokesman deferred comment to a local spokesperson, who has not immediately provided a response Monday evening.

There probably is a lot more to the story than this, I think you made some good points anyways.

  2. Erica Simmens says:

I am not sure I believe the facts as stated in the complaint. I mean, a newspaper stand is a heavy piece of equipment. It does not just blow over!
